After weeks and tedious months of watching Hitchcock on that hulking hand-me-down, you've decided to purchase an LCD flat-screen TV.

You no longer need to configure your living room to meet the needs of your gargantuan television. TV wall mounts make it possible for you to incorporate your television without being a slave to its heft. The choices out there are confusing, but with a few simple tips, you‘ll be ready to watch Rear Window in no time.

Types

Flat-panel TV wall mounts come in a few different configurations: flat, tilt, and swivel. Flat mounts are a solid solution for those who wish to incorporate their television as part of the permanent scheme of a room. This is also a great option if you wish to protect your TV inside of a cabinet. Tilt and swivel TV wall mounts are nice for bedrooms where they can be mounted higher on the wall for more comfortable viewing. If you are considering placing your TV in a sunny room, you may want to choose a swivel mount in order to control the glare.

Placement

If you're choosing a flat wall mount for your LCD TV, take a seat on your couch and determine the height of your eyes from the ground. Use this measurement as the center measurement for your TV wall mount. If, when you are standing, the TV seems to awkwardly low, raise it up so that the bottom matches your viewing height. If you are using a swivel or tilt mount, the TV can be placed even a little higher, depending on the degree of tilt.

Mounting

Most TV wall mounts are relatively easy to install, but there are some important considerations before you begin. Decide how you are going to treat your cables. You can either run them inside the wall for a more professional look, or you can use A/V cable runners to hide your cords. Also, take extra care to find a stud. If you have to mount onto brick or concrete, you may have to purchase additional materials to guarantee optimal results. Remember, the TV wall mount is going to be supporting a lot of weight, so you may want to review proper hanging techniques before beginning.
