1. To ensure that the wall can support the weight of the plasma TV, mounts are anchored to the studs behind drywall or plaster walls. Plasma mounts are designed in accordance with the standard distance between wall studs.
2. To mount a plasma TV so that the center of the screen will be at eye level for those seated, a flat mount should be used. If the TV is mounted higher on the wall, a tilt plasma mount should be used to guarantee comfortable viewing.
3. When there is not a wall for mounting a plasma TV, a ceiling mount can be anchored to the ceiling joists. A ceiling flange and extension pipe allow for adjustments to the height of the ceiling mount so that the plasma TV is at the right level for comfortable viewing.
4. For family room viewing, plasma TV screens are usually 37 inches or larger. If the room is large enough for viewers to sit at least 10 feet from the screen, mount the plasma TV over the fireplace using a tilt mount.
5. Kitchens are usually the busiest rooms in the house - kitchens are used for meals, entertaining, and even as office space. The perfect place to mount a kitchen TV is at the bottom of a cabinet, using a cabinet mount that saves space and allows the TV to flip out of the way when not in use.
6. After installing a wall or ceiling mount, attach the plasma TV to the mount, and apply firm pressure on the TV in ensure that wall and TV connections are secure. If you do not want wires running down the wall, drill a small hole to drop the wires behind the wall, and another small hole for the wires to exit from behind the wall.
7. Plasma TVs are measured diagonally, with screen sizes beginning at 37 inches, and measuring up to 103 inches. Screens that measure less that 37 inches are usually LCD screens, and those measuring over 65 inches are rear-projection TVs.
8. Make sure the room size can accommodate the size of the plasma screen and that the walls can hold the weight. Recommendations are that a 37-inch screen be 6 to 10 feet from the viewing seats; a 42-inch screen, 8 to 12 feet; a 50-inch TV, 10 to 14 feet, and at least 14 feet between seating and a 60- to 65-inch screen.
9. When plasma TVs are mounted at the correct wall height and distance from seating, the superb resolution and true-to-life colors have an astounding effect. Resolution is higher than regular TVs, billions of colors are displayed for smooth color gradients, and because each pixel cell has its own transistor electrode, there are no scan lines.
10. When using a tilting mount, make sure the screws that attach the mount to the TV do not interfere with the movement of the mount. Usually tilting or swiveling mounts have multiple sets of screw holes to select from, so in case of interference, select another set of holes.
