VESA is the Video Electronics Standards Association; an international non-profit organization that supports and sets industry-wide standards for the PC, workstation, and consumer electronics industries, ensuring interoperability. VESA is governed by a Board of Directors, representing a voting membership of around 165 corporate members, including hardware, software, PC, display, and component manufacturers, cable and telephone companies, and service providers. VESA provides a forum to develop, promote, and support open standards for the display industry, and is one of the leading standards organizations in the electronics industry.
VESA was founded in the late 1980's by NEC Home Electronics and eight other video display adapter manufacturers to set a standard for SVGA resolution video displays. Since then, VESA has issued a number of standards for the display industry, including 'VESA mounts', a flat-mounting display interface, a DisplayPort Standard, and a Standard on Television Panels for LCD televisions.
